While i was watching that new show " The Little Nyonya" on Channel 8
The role that Felicia Chin acted said something interesting... She said that we are part of a big tree (^^,) We must make an effort to trace back where are from... The history of our family shows us the values of the family... It will not just be for a generation but many generations... For instance, my grandparents valued "Compassion" So i heard from my mother that they were often give to the poor on the street And very willingly to lend a helping hand upon request. Not just that, they would go the Extra miles to ensure everything is OK. That value passed down from my grandparents and to my mum. And it will be a natural thing for me to stop over and give to the poor. Sometimes if i don't because i have not enough $ with me, i will really feel bad man Oh ya~ Talking about my grandparents <3 My grandparents are Peranakan... They are Chinese Indonesians :) Mostly They will address : Man- Baba Lady- Nyonya They partially adopted the Malay customs and still have the Chinese traditions:) Speak in Baba Malay ( a dialect in Malay which contains a lot of Hokkien words) Now English replaced Baba Malay as the language spoken for the young generation. So considering my parents are Peranakan, that means i'm also a Nyonya ya?! hahaha~~~ Ok now i must really learn how to cook those Peranakan food And yea i would love to buy one of the "Sarong Kebaya". Those clothes that the Nyonya usually wear:)... ========================Nyonya Wan================================== |
